Cutting Sizes, Shapes & Patterns

We take pride in the products and services we offer. Our 15,000 square foot warehouse and production facility allows us to quickly ship our stocked standard sizes in a few days. Generally, any non-standard sizes that require fabrication can be shipped in about two weeks, and larger orders in three weeks. One of our unique features includes the ability to cut various different shapes, sizes, and patterns in any of our natural stone products. By providing variations in our stones we are able to fulfill our customer’s need for a creative and unique look. All of our products are sold by the square foot or piece, not as whole boxes. This allows our clients to order as much or as little as they need.

Sizes

When referring to our sizes, it is important to keep in mind that all sizes are nominal, or 1/8” short, and not actual sizes. For example, our 12x12’s are actually 11-7/8x11-7/8. We generally stock our standard sizes of 12’s, 16’s, and 24’s in all but our Udiapur and African stones (which only go up to 16x16). We have the capability to cut as small as 2x2, and everything in between, in most of our materials. Certain materials can even be cut as small as a 1x1.

Some of our most popular cut sizes include: 12x24, 8x16, 8x8, 6x12, 6x6, 3x6, 4x8, 4x4, and 2x4.

Patterns are sized according to the longest length of the largest tile. For example, if a three-piece pattern was made up of 2x2, 2x4, and 4x4 the size of the pattern would be four. Patterns are available in many different sizes and can range from a 4-inch module to a 24-inch module. Please refer to our Pattern Guide for more accurate size availability of a pattern.

Shapes

Our collections of stone shapes include squares, rectangles, rhomboids, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, and triangles. Our rhomboids are four sided tiles generally resembling a diamond. Pentagons are five sided tiles that have one dot (a 2x2 or 3x3) with every four tiles. The hexagons are six sided tiles that include one dot with every two tiles. Perfect hexagons are also available. Octagons are eight sided tiles that include one dot with every tile. Finally, the triangles are three sided right triangle tiles.

In addition to our traditional sizes we also offer trailstones. Trailstones are essentially broken stones that can range in size. These sizes indicate the size of the original tile before breaking and tumbling. Our smaller trailstones, or riverstones, can range from 2”-6” and be mesh mounted. Our medium trailstones range from 8”-12” and our large and extra large trailstones range from 12”-24”. Pricing will depend on the stone and includes tumbling. Non-tumbled trailstones are available upon request.

Patterns

The CleftStone Works’ facility is capable of producing numerous custom Random Ashlar, Block Ashlar, Border, Strip, and Tile patterns, which can be found in our Pattern Guide.

This flexibility allows our clientele to tweak their pattern with different grout joints, stones, and finishes.

Each pattern is referred to as a ‘module’ and can range from a 2-piece module to a 9-piece module.

Once a pattern has been selected, the next step is to pick a module size and a grout joint width. Please see our size section for further explanation on pattern sizes. For smaller sized patterns, which are typically 4-8” modules, a grout joint of 1/4” or 3/16” is available. For larger sized modules, which are typically 12-24” modules, a grout joint of 1/4” or 3/8” is available.

Sound too complicated? Trust us, it’s not.

We want to make your job easier, so when placing an order just provide us with the square footage needed, a sketch if there is one, or the name of the desired pattern, and leave the rest to us.

We have a program that will allow us to figure out exactly how many pieces and patterns are needed for each installation. When calculating an order for your clients, keep in mind that all patterns are priced per square foot, not by module or case size. This helps to eliminate waste on the job, and provides a more accurate order.

After placing an order with us we will send a confirmation form via fax to make sure that we have the correct information including: size, pattern, grout, stone, finish, and square footage. If all of the details are correct, a signature is required to release your order. Due to the custom nature of our patterns, your order will not be put into production until we have received this signed confirmation form. Once we have received the confirmation form we ask that you allow 2-3 weeks for your pattern order to be completed and shipped.
